Dates, Deadlines, Distractions and Dalliances

One of my biggest pet peeves in life is being late. I hate it! And being on time you may as well be late because if something goes wrong or comes up, well you don't have a buffer zone to absorb it. So, you would think that, with that attitude, deadlines would be easily met as par for the course. Oh how I wish that that were the case.

Deadlines can be one of the biggest stressors for anyone but sometimes even more so for the writer.

Sometimes the words are just there and they flow easily onto the page. Other times the ink well seems to have run dry.

When the words won't come and the days slink by bringing the deadline ever closer sometimes it seems better to give in to the distractions rather than dwell on the pressure of a looming threat. Dallying with another muse won't get you where you need to go.

I can be the queen of procrastination. I will find a million other things to distract me until I am under the wire and chasing the clock.

I always start out well intention-ed. I may even be ahead of my goals in the early days. But somewhere along the way I go astray.

Fortunately for me, sometimes under pressure is where I do my best work.

Now, I really should get back to work.....
