Line Edits- Take 2

So, I reached out to my editor today just to make sure that she had gotten the edits I had sent her at the beginning of the month. She replied that she had and that it was in great shape, she was just doing line edits on it and I would have it back for those corrections by tomorrow evening. I swallowed and re-read it just to be sure that I had read it correctly. Yes, it said "line edits".

I thought we had done line edits and had moved on to copy editing. Apparently I thought wrong! Oh dear. Now, in retrospect, she did say it was in great shape. Of course my brain skipped that part as well as the realization that, of course we needed a take two, we'd added new content.

For those of you who may not know, editing comes in two forms; line editing and copy editing. Line editing looks at the creative content, the use of language and the writing style. It solves things like flow problems so that you are better communicating what you want to say to the reader. Copy editing, on the other hand, addresses the technical flaws, things like spelling and grammatical errors.

To be honest, I'd rather have copy writing issues than line edits. It is so much easier to be told "hey you spelled supercalifragilisticexpialidocious wrong" than it is to be told your story is lacking something or your writing is not conveying your meaning as it should.

Round one had been better than I'd expected. Mostly it was give us more. I'm hoping that my imagination is getting the better of me and that round two will be the same, if not easier. I won't know until they are in my in box, of course, so I wait.

Oh! My messenger dinged, and it's my editor. I guess I should see what she needs .... Catch you again soon.
